History

Mark Atkins was born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal. He pursued his studies in Bloemfontein and completed his internship in Pietermaritzburg. Mark moved to Pretoria to finish his community service and stayed on at the hospital for another 7 months before starting his specialisation studies. In 2012, Mark began a private practice in Upington, but due to COVID and other factors, he started searching for new opportunities.

Fortunately, Dr Annandale contacted Mark and invited him to visit her practice and the West Coast for a weekend. After the visit, Mark was convinced to continue Dr Annandale‘s legacy and bring his expertise in working with children to the community. He is excited to start this new chapter in his career.

Hi there! My name is Mark Atkins, also known as Dr. Mark or Oom Dr, and I’m a general paediatrician who has taken over Dr Annandale’s practice in Vredenburg since August 1st, 2022.

I have experience working with all newborn babies, including premature infants weighing as little as 800g. I work with all children up to 17 years old to manage acute and chronic illnesses, particularly allergic diseases, behavioural problems, infectious diseases, and kidney illnesses.

My goal is to work as a team with many other health professionals to support the family as a whole entity. Nothing is more rewarding than sending a happy and healthy child home to his/her parents.
